It all began in the 1930s, Viña del Mar’s outstanding landscapes and beaches started the idea of an urban infrastructure, a plan began to turn Viña del Mar into a world-class resort city, capturing through new works the spirit to give space to new social, cultural and sports practices associated with leisure and well-being. Two decades later, starting in 1950, the modern movement broke out, complementing this original vision. This was reflected, on the one hand, in a series of high-level public works, accessible to everyone. And on the other hand, the private sector also developed numerous residential and commercial buildings that helped consolidate the modern movement as the predominant style in the city’s urban identity, turning it into a renowned tourist destination and embodying the ideals of progress through architecture.
